While we enjoy a seemingly endless supply of new and improved fly reels from myriad sources, most share the same basic features: a small knob that adjusts the drag setting, a frame that houses the drag and mounts on the rod, a spool that is rotated by hand to retrieve line, a one-way bearing that determines the direction of retrieve and a gear ratio of 1:1.
