Fishing Last Night

Fishing Last Night

Last night I had dinner with Ray Vasquez, and it didn’t take very long before we decided we should give this whole “fly fishing for tarpons” thing a try.
We grabbed a few rods, hopped in the skiff, and after a 20 minute ride we stopped to look for fish. We didn’t see any at first and went to look for more. We hadn’t moved more than 200 yards before we saw them popping, and shut down for our first drift. We were, literally, surrounded by tarpon.
I came tight on our first drift twice, but I couldn’t keep them hooked. Our second drift produced a good bite, and I landed a sweet 60 pound fish. The bite died down as the sun set, and we moved down to a nearby channel (#5) and fished through the gloaming and into the night. Raymond hooked a small fish that spit the hook, I came tight again but couldn’t convert, and we called it a night.

Good times. Tomorrow Aaron and I fish, as well as the next day. Wednesday with Ray. Reports to follow.
