Update on the flats/next month schedule

There was a lapse in the information flow about fishing on the flats during mini-season. This annual “boater fest” keeps most flats captains at home catching up on some much needed rest or joining the crowd and trying to get their limit of lobsters before the season proper opens on 5 August.
As far as the current conditions are concerned, however, it’s been relatively windy–certainly compared to the Del Brown tournament days (the same could be said about a glass of milk in a vacuum, but I digress). Certainly, the fishing remains good on the flats and anglers are seeing bonefish, permit, and plenty of tarpon.
Upcoming reports will include the following: on 4 August, I am fishing with Captain John O’Hearn and tarpon angler David Dalu. We have plans to fish for anything that’s available, but my guess is we will look for tarpon since, at the moment anyway, I would rather bathe in lye than look for permit.
Following that, on 7 August I leave for the everglades with Aaron Snell to fish for three days with Capt. Andy Thompson. This trip presents a very serious opportunity to get “the six” out of the way; especially fishing with two guides of this caliber.
On 17 August I leave for the Fly Tackle Retailers Show, and will have any news of cool stuff.
On 3 September I will be leaving for Montana for a few days to fish for smallmouth and carp with Fitz Coker, returning in time for the Superfly tournament on 9 September. I will be fishing with Aaron Snell.
