Description: This spool, while produced in the largest quantities of all the available spools for the 8550C, was ahead of its time. The handle placement on the interior of the spool face created a multiplying effect as the angler retrieved line, and the large arbor was one of the earliest departures from the small arbors that were standard through the 80’s.

One of the issues with the handle placement is that it removes leverage from the retrieve; as such, these spools are best suited to lighter weight fishing. If you want to catch a tarpon or a large permit, it might be best to get a tarpon spool for this frame. However, if you want to enjoy a spool that can handle any bonefish that swims (and arguably catch a big one faster) then this is the spool for you.
