Fishing yesterday and the day before
Yesterday I fished with Captain Chris McCreedy, and the day before with Fitz Coker.
Day one:
Fitz and I intended to go out and catch some snapper for dinner and then try our hand at some fly poling, and we did both with great success. We limited out on grey snapper, and I caught a nice barracuda while wading on a bar out east–very fun. As always, spending the day with Fitz was incredible and I can’t wait to do it again.
Yesterday I fished with Captain Cris McCreedy, and after a very tough March Merkin we decided to shark fish instead. Our target was the 6# tippet blacktip shark record, and in the clouds and on the leading edge of a small cold front set about trying to get something done. Chris did a great job of finding our target species and in the size we needed for the record (30 pounds), but we didn’t get the amount of interest we needed for a fly grab. I hooked one that came off, and Chris caught one that was 28 pounds.
I had a great time with Chris and look forward to fsihing with him again. Tomorrow I start with Joe for the Islamorada Shark Fly Tournament, back on Thursday. Reports to follow, and next Monday and Tuesday with Aaron.
