Jon Ain

Jon Ain

Yesterday, while I was fishing with Captain Mike Gorton, we heard the news that Jon Ain passed away. Jon had been battling cancer for the last few months, and everyone in the lower Keys has been in touch with him while he was in Denver being treated.
Jon was a talented and committed angler and, perhaps most importantly, a devoted conservationist. He was the co-founder (and two time winner, with Captain Doug Kilptarick) of the March Merkin permit tournament. He worked tirelessly with the Bonefish Tarpon Trust to fund and cultivate their efforts to tag permit, and caught over 300 permit on fly in the course of his career.
Jon was a devoted husband as well, and his wife Shirley is one of the nicest people I’ve met.

The Angling Company is deeply saddened by this news, and we will post any relevant information about a memorial on this website. We wish his family the best, and feel the loss in our community deeply.

The fishing report from yesterday and Monday will be uploaded later.
