The tarpon spool was produced for tarpon fisherman, though its mid-arbor size means it has broad applications beyond its intended purpose. Unlike the bonefish spool, which had an arbor size too large to accommodate lines above a 9 while containing sufficient backing, the spool on this frame can comfortably hold lines up to 12 weight without compromising capacity.

This reel is in the same condition it was when it shipped directly from Jack and Judy in the 1990s. It has never been lined, and is part of a collection of Charlton Reels that have been in the possession of a collector since it was sold. The handle has been oiled, as per the care instructions with all of Jack’s reels, and includes the original box, pouch and warranty papers. For a collector or angler that wants to fish a truly new, never-used Charlton 8550C for any rod weight from 9-12 this is a fantastic option.
