Tarpon/Permit/Wind
Tarpon/Permit/Wind
Greetings to all Key West anglers (and those of you headed down here this season to fish but who are otherwise chained to a desk in parts northern and less fishy)! We have had a great week or so of fishing in the lower Keys–captains have reported numerous permit on the flats, as well as tarpon laid up in the backcountry. Only afew fish have been spotted on the ocean side, where we are still awaiting the arrival of the large migratory schools making there way up the Keys and offering innumerable shots along their way. Additionally, the evening and early morning fishing for tarpon has been phenomenal.
It seems as though the permit have begun to move offshore to spawn, though I am still hearing reports of remaining fish on the flats getting hooked.
This week the wind is predicted to HOWL from the east until Saturday, which may get in the way of my scheduled fsihing day on Thursday with a friend.
Stay tuned, more reports to come!
Tight lines,
NCL/TAC
