Fishing Reports

The fishing reports page has been a favorite for a while now, and we try to keep it updated regularly. For the most part, it’s a blog of Nathaniel Linville and the fishing he does with guides that he’s lucky enough to fish with though occasionally we’ll post a guest report from one of our friends on a trip they took. Good days, bad days, success and failure, they’re all here. Photos accompany the report when they’re available, but if you want straight photos the best place to look is the photo gallery.

Update on the flats/next month schedule

July 31, 2011 Comments Off on Update on the flats/next month schedule

There was a lapse in the information flow about fishing on the flats during mini-season. This annual “boater fest” keeps most flats captains at home catching up on some much needed rest or joining the crowd and trying to get their limit of lobsters before the season proper opens on 5 August. As far as…

Flats report

July 24, 2011 Comments Off on Flats report

Fishing on the flats remains great–now that the wind is blowing a bit the permit bite is on, and the bonefish and smaller tarpon remain. If ever there was a time for a slam, this is it! As soon as I have some photos I’ll post them here. Regards, ncl/tac

Fishing report for EYW

July 22, 2011 Comments Off on Fishing report for EYW

After the Del Brown, I’ve enjoyed doing anything other than permit fishing. Fishing that tough, while awesome in it’s own special way, is very much like watching “There Will Be Blood”: great movie, well acted, super soundtrack, but after watching it I’m good with not watching anything serious for a while. With that in mind,…

Del Brown Results

July 21, 2011 Comments Off on Del Brown Results

The Del Brown this year was challenging. Between water temperatures approaching the 90’s in the afternoon, a complete lack of wind and cloud cover that made sight fishing nearly impossible, the conditions redefined difficult. At the end of day one, not a single team of the 14 competing in the tournament had hooked a fish.…

Bonefish/permit

July 16, 2011 Comments Off on Bonefish/permit

The bonefishing is great at the moment, as is the permit fishing. In fact, right now would be a great time to slam, as there are still a fair number of small(er) tarpon around. Tomorrw I pre-fish for the Del Brown with Aaron, and I’m hoping to get out tonight to grease the groove with…

The permit are around. I had a number of shots last evening with Captain Ray Vasquez, and there have been many captures/sightings recently of some larger than average fish. We looked for some bonefish as well, but did not see any. Here is some evidence, courtesy Aaron Snell: I am gearing up for the Del…

Weather update and some photos

July 11, 2011 Comments Off on Weather update and some photos

The weather is fantastic today, and everyone seems to be out there enjoying the great bonefish and permit fishing. New flies are on the way from Dave Skok, just in time for the Del Brown next Monday through Wednesday. I’m fishing tomorrow evening with Captain Ray Vasquez, looking to grease the permit groove before pre-fshing for…

Despite the fact that the last link I put up here didn’t work right away, I’m trying it again. Click the link at the bottom of the report for more NZ trout action, courtesy of my brother and mother. While it’s not raining today, it remains overcast and the forecast is for cloud cover and…

Rain in the Keys

July 7, 2011 Comments Off on Rain in the Keys

It’s raining in the Keys. I wish I had more to report, but today it’s wet anglers and guides taking advantage of our tying area + materials, our company, and our large comfy leather chairs. Any and all are welcome. Last night I had dinner with Aaron, Elena and Olivia Snell, and afterwards Aaron and…

Some Photographs

It’s raining on and off here, and the fishing has been difficult for those brave enough to sight fish with no visibility. Today’s (and, from what it looks like, the next few days’) weather notwithstanding, the fishing is great. Typical of July there are a fair number of smaller tarpon around, and bonefish and permit…

Jack Charlton

July 5, 2011 Comments Off on Jack Charlton

As many of you have heard by now, Jack Charlton passed away on 10 June, 2011. The news of his death was made public on 15 June. I realize it has taken a while for me to write something here. I did not know Jack Charlton, personally, very well. We have been phone/email frends for…

July 4, 2011 Comments Off on Happy 4OJ, New Zealand Video Link, 203 report + Key West Report (2)

My apologies for the absence of anything new for the last few days, but I return bearing a gift: a link to a video my brother Caleb shot in New Zealand last January. Watch a big brown trout feeding and a big brother comment on it. Video Courtesy Vicky and Caleb Linville: http://gallery.me.com/vickylinville#100028 / I…

Fishing yesterday

June 24, 2011 Comments Off on Fishing yesterday

Yesterday I fished with Captain Will Benson alongside David Weeks. We left at 8:30, and very soon after had a great shot at a large permit. David then took a crack at a single bonefish, and we moved along to find some schools of bonefish over white sand. Quite quickly, we boated a small bonefish…

flats update

June 22, 2011 Comments Off on flats update

The tarpon are still around, though most of the reports I have been hearing center around the great bonefish and permit fishing that’s been going on lately. Many anglers and guides are heading in to the typical skinny spots, looking for tailing permit and schools of summer bonefish to play with instead of ocean side…

An Angling Company Sticker, featuring Chalmers Allen

June 19, 2011 Comments Off on An Angling Company Sticker, featuring Chalmers Allen

A few weeks ago, I hired a young angler to put an Angling Company sticker “somewhere cool”, take a photograph, and bring it back so I could put it on the website. Here’s the thing: Mr. Chalmers Allen did a bang-up job, and he is the owner of a new Angling Company fly box with…

Three days with Aaron

June 16, 2011 Comments Off on Three days with Aaron

Day 1: Aaron and I, after a morning spent dealing with lower unit issues, got out on the water at 10 AM. We began by chasing the six, looking in vain for some fish in the shallow areas that would accomodate light line capture. After a few shots at fish that didn’t appear large enough,…

Finally, a photo of an amberjack

June 10, 2011 Comments Off on Finally, a photo of an amberjack

Well, for those of you who have been following this report for a while, I finally got a few of the photos from Captain Chris Trosset of my trip West with Michael Hetzel, and as it turns out there were not as many great shots as I had imagined. Only one, in fact, that is…
