Fishing Reports V1

The fishing reports page has been a favorite for a while now, and we try to keep it updated regularly. For the most part, it’s a blog of Nathaniel Linville and the fishing he does with guides that he’s lucky enough to fish with though occasionally we’ll post a guest report from one of our friends on a trip they took. Good days, bad days, success and failure, they’re all here. Photos accompany the report when they’re available, but if you want straight photos the best place to look is the photo gallery.

The Angling Company would like to congratulate Dotty Ballantyne on her latest accomplishment: she now hold 100 IGFA fly rod world records. Of course, there are some highlights: a 75.5 lb lemon shark on 4 lb tippet, a 21.5 pound cobia on 8 lb, the 2 lb tippet blacktip shark record that she set after…

Happy 4th, fishing yesterday

July 4, 2012 Comments Off on Happy 4th, fishing yesterday

Yesterday I fished with John O’Hearn. Our plan was to find a pocket of large tarpon and give the six a shot. We had a report that there were some large creatures very far east, and we left at 7:30 to find them. At 8:45 we arrived in the basin, and began our hunt. We…

Fishing this morning

This morning I fished with Aaron Snell. I must say that it felt great to get out there, as I haven’t been fishing since the weather went poor on the 19 and got better a few days ago. We left relatively early, and found a few fish at our first stop. I had a great…

Weather Improvement

The weather is beautiful, and I just spoke to Charles Smid who hooked 5 tarpon today with John O’Hearn–we’re glad things have turned around. I’m fishing with Aaron for a few hours before work on Saturday, and a report (hopefully with a title like “So Much Drying” will follow. Tuesday I fish with John, and…

So this weather continues, and we’re all about sick of it. For such a great year, June has certainly been underwhelming. I lost two days in the middle of this month; the last day that was reasonable was Monday 18 June; nearly ten days ago as I write this. While that’s not a long time…

The Angling Company would like to congratulate Captain Rick Murphy and Steve Ward for their victory in the 49th annual Gold Cup Tournament. The fishing was difficult, and these two made it happen. Hats off. Runners up were Captain Craig Brewer and Thane Morgan, followed by Captain Rob Fordyce and Carlos Duncan. Captain Joe Rodriguez…

The weather right now is fantastic . John and I elected to call our fishing off for today, which I must say feels like a pretty good move. From what I hear, the Gold Cup has been crazy tough, and while I’ve heard who won I’m waiting for more info before posting full results here.…

June 20, 2012 Comments Off on At least we got one day in…

Our fishing on Monday was pretty difficult, as The Wind had moved in and we didn’t have much visibility due to a pretty consistent cloud cover. Conditions notwithstanding, we fished hard all morning and early afternoon for the six. Our first spot didn’t produce, and we simply moved from area to area in hopes of…

Fishing yesterday

Yesterday I fished with Aaron Snell, and we have the next two days booked as well. We were in pursuit of the 6, and as such knew we were making a concession of quantity for a (hopeful) increase in quality. Our first four spots didn’t produce but a handful of shots, and most of those…

Fishing yesterday with Aaron and Fitz

June 14, 2012 Comments Off on Fishing yesterday with Aaron and Fitz

Yesterday I was invited to fish with Fitz Coker, who had Aaron Snell booked for the day. Just to spend the day with two of my favorite people made the day worthwhile; it was all the better for the fact that we were fly fishing for tarpon. While we only caught two, but the company…

Fishing with Raymond Monday

June 11, 2012 Comments Off on Fishing with Raymond Monday

On Monday I fished with Captain Raymond Vasquez. Our plan was to fish for permit and bonefish, theoretically practicing for the upcoming Del Brown. We left the dock at 7:00, an early start to a day that was quite overcast. We began by looking for baby tarpon just outside the marina as we waited for…

Apparently the fishing was as good as I imagined it to be yesterday, though windy. Charles Smid supplied these two photos (I believe he was fishing with Drew Delashmit, though I may be wrong…) Lenny Leonard also sent in some flicks, you can view two of them here: Today the wind is up, and bringing…

The skies have been overcast recently, and the seeing has been difficult. However, from what I have heard the fish are still eager to pile on a fly if you can get it in front of them. Today is the first day that has been sunny in a week or so, and as such I…

June 5, 2012 Comments Off on Report from Dotty and Fitz, fishing yesterday

Yesterday I fished with Jon Olch. We began by looking for bonefish, and while I have found many at our location in the past, we were there on slack high water and we didn’t find any. I did, however, manage to fall of the platform while pushing the boat. After our bonefish look we went…

The Angling Company would like to congratulate Dave and Cal Collier in their victory for the 19th annual Smitty and Al’s Tarpon Bonanza.
