Fishing Reports V1
The fishing reports page has been a favorite for a while now, and we try to keep it updated regularly. For the most part, it’s a blog of Nathaniel Linville and the fishing he does with guides that he’s lucky enough to fish with though occasionally we’ll post a guest report from one of our friends on a trip they took. Good days, bad days, success and failure, they’re all here. Photos accompany the report when they’re available, but if you want straight photos the best place to look is the photo gallery.
So this week will mark the beginning of the annual Redbone SLAM tournament in Key West, starting with the Superfly event on Friday. As the sponsort of the tournament, we are of course available to answer any questions regarding this tournament. The Angling Company is happy to support the Redbone Series, working to cure Cystic…
Read MoreMy apologies for the lack of updates lately….on to the business at hand: Our mid to late summer fishing has been great, though a glut of warm weather and difficult tides during the heat of the day lately has made for a few abbreviated trips that ended in a cold cocktail. So far the tarpon…
Read MoreWell, for those of you who have been following this report for a while, I finally got a few of the photos from Captain Chris Trosset of my trip West with Michael Hetzel, and as it turns out there were not as many great shots as I had imagined. Only one, in fact, that is…
Read MoreSo here we are, smack in the middle of a late, though phenomenal, tarpon season for 2010!! Here are a few observations from the year so far: it appears as though there are a lot of quite large fish around; bigger than average. The fish are pushing on the oceanside, though slowly. In fact, I…
Read MoreSo tarpon season is comng along fine, with a few oddities mixed in to keep things interesting. It appears as though the fish, perhaps in response to the on-and-off weather we have been experienceing lately, have either been thick as or quite hard to find. A great many captains I have spoken with have seen…
Read MoreGreetings to all Key West anglers (and those of you headed down here this season to fish but who are otherwise chained to a desk in parts northern and less fishy)! We have had a great week or so of fishing in the lower Keys–captains have reported numerous permit on the flats, as well as…
Read MoreAs many of you by now undoubtedly know, April marks the beginning of tarpon season. This is not to say that there can’t be some epic days on the water in January, February and March, but April 1 through July 31 has been the traditional “tarpon season” as a general guide. While we had a…
Read MoreSo the fishing held until Monday morning, when the wind swung around to the west and we lost about 6-10 degrees (f) on some flats we had marked on Saturday. Keep in mind that the surface area compared to volume ratio of the water on the flats allows it to heat up and cool down…
Read MoreSo it’s on!! Last night, in four hours of fishing from approximately 6 PM EDT until 9 PM EDT myself, my father and mother (Jim and Vicky Linville), our cousin Fitz Coker and our dear friend Captain Aaron Snell, jumped over 15 tarpon, landed two, and released four (for the purposes of this report, a…
Read MoreFriends of the Angling Company: Last week the annual March Merkin tournament was held in Key West. Over three days of what could easily be described as prohibitively difficult conditions, two fish were caught. The Angling Company would like to extend it’s warmest congratulations to Capt. Scott Collins of Marathon and his client who took…
Read MoreIt will come as no suprise to those of you who have been watching the news that Florida, and the Keys, has experienced a fish kill over the last few weeks. As a result of an extended period of cold weather, we have watched with dismay as more than a few species of fish succumbed…
Read MoreSo, without much of a report to give (other than the fact that the weather is warm and the fishing is phenomenal) I was looking for any piece of angling news on the web for inspiration to help with the task of my daily fishing report. As is usually the case, my unbridled inter-web surfing…
Read MoreMy apologies for the absence of anything new for the last few days, but I return bearing a gift: a link to a video my brother Caleb shot in New Zealand last December. Watch a big brown trout feeding and a big brother comment on it. Video Courtesy Vicky and Caleb Linville: http://gallery.me.com/vickylinville#100028 I was…
Read MoreIt’s pretty cool to see photos of fish in their natural environment, happy as all get up doing what they do best. Until I can supply a report from the show in New Orleans (which includes a GREAT carp fishing report), these will have to do. That’s it. Regards, ncl/tac
Read MoreDay 2 began with clear skies and warm water, and our fishing showed improvement. We fed a large fish at around 10 AM, and pulled the hook out of it’s mouth on the hook set. Immediately thereafter, we hooked a large fish that stayed connected. We survived the first set of jumps and we fired…
Read MoreYesterday, while I was fishing with Captain Mike Gorton, we heard the news that Jon Ain passed away. Jon had been battling cancer for the last few months, and everyone in the lower Keys has been in touch with him while he was in Denver being treated. Jon was a talented and committed angler and,…
Read MoreAs I write this, the fall/winter blacktip shark bite is in full swing. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this particular member of the genus carcharhinidae, it is perhaps the most athletic and agile member of the family. Additionally, these are handsome animals; no two ways about it. They aggresively chase baits on…
Read MoreAs the weather continues to warm, we are starting to see the beginnings of tarpon pushing into the basins in the backcountry across the Keys. I have heard reports of fish laying up in Big Pine, around Key West, and in the harbor and channels surrounding the lower Keys. As this current warming trend continues,…
