Fishing Reports V1
The fishing reports page has been a favorite for a while now, and we try to keep it updated regularly. For the most part, it’s a blog of Nathaniel Linville and the fishing he does with guides that he’s lucky enough to fish with though occasionally we’ll post a guest report from one of our friends on a trip they took. Good days, bad days, success and failure, they’re all here. Photos accompany the report when they’re available, but if you want straight photos the best place to look is the photo gallery.
My phone started making lots of noise this afternoon. It seems that this morning angler Thane Morgan and Captain Dustin Huff caught a very large tarpon on 4 lb. What I hear is this: they hooked the fish at 4 pm yesterday and boated it at 10 this morning–not that anyone reading this needs the…
Read MoreThis afternoon, Aaron and I will drive to Islamorada. We will get a hotel room, tour the dark taverns, and eat fried food. Tomorrow we will wake up early, meet Andy at the ramp. We will run to the Everglades as the sun is rising, and it will be warm. There won’t be much wind,…
Read MoreTomorrow Aaron and I leave for the Everglades, once again fishing with Captain Andy Thompson. The weather forecast looked dodgy until yesterday, but at the moment the weather looks good and the fish are where we want them. A report will surely follow, as well as (hopefully) pictures. If ever there was a time when…
Read MoreA fair amount of wind has arrived, and the ishore fishing is a little spotty at the moment as a result. Forecasts call for it to continue until Wednesday (12 October), the day I have scheduled to go the Everglades and continue pursuing the six with Aaron and Captain Andy Thompson. At this point, I’m…
Read MoreYesterday a rather large storm sat on Key West for a few hours. Aaron emailed me a few photos he took from his window as the lightning lit things up. It’s beautiful today, and if things go according to plan I’ll have some more fish pictures up tomorrow as the weather might allow some evening…
Read MoreOn Thursday I fished again with Captain John O’Hearn and Ted Margo. On Tuesday, while talking with Ted on the dock, I had dropped my glasses into the water at the ramp, and despite 10 minutes of diving and feeling with my toes on the bottom I had given up hope. Thursday began with a…
Read MoreYesterday I was invited to fish with Ted Margo and John O’Hearn. We fished from Big Pine and, despite the intermittent rain showers that plagued us early on, had a great day on the water. When we first got out to the flats, Ted had a shot at a few fish over white sand. The…
Read MoreAfter inventory, which took a few days and kept me from doing much else besides counting things, Angling Company Reports is back on line. The fishing remains stellar to say the least, and guides are reporting large numbers of bonefish and permit on the flats in addition to the typical groups of smaller tarpon that…
Read MoreAt the moment, the fishing is off the proverbial chain. I don’t know when it will return to the links, but before it does here’s encouraging you to get out and take advantage of the incredible bonefish and permit fishing that’s going on. Even the snook are getting in on the action, as Tom Beatty…
Read MoreBonefish and permit abound. Get out there and catch them! Regards, ncl/tac
Read MoreYesterday, Cal Collier, Jr. and Captain Justin Rea won the Superfly with a total of 2 bonefish, 2 tarpon, and a permit to round out the slam. Second place went to Mo Smith, fishing with Captain Mark Krowka, who landed two tarpon and three (yup, 3!) permit on fly. The Angling Company would like to…
Read MoreI havn’t been out a lot lately, though I’m hearing that the bonefish and permit are around in good numbers, provided you can see them. The cloud cover has been the number one complaint, but when the sun is out or fishing is taking place over white sand the visibility seems to lead to good…
Read MoreToday seems like the first day since Isaac that it sounds decent out there. I haven’t been out since before I left for Montana, but the reports I’m getting are pretty good from my friends that are out there today. On Tuesday my mother Vicky Linville arrives and we fish with Drew Delashmit on Wednesday.…
Read MoreAaron Snell and I met at the shop this morning at 6:30. We cut loose the Borski canoe from the ceiling, and put it in the back of his truck. We began at the pond near his house, and landed a few baby tarpon from shore before launching the vessel and heading to the other…
Read MoreIn the absence of a real report to provide, here’s what I’m doing tomorrow: At 6:30, Aaron and I are going to take the Borski canoe I have hanging from the ceiling, a push pole, a fly rod, and go to the salt ponds in search of baby tarpon and snook. That’s the report, I’ll…
Read MoreAt 6:30 (ok….I was a little late…) this morning I met Aaron for a morning jaunt. We decided that it’s high time we got back on the snook program, and after coffee and some time with young Olivia left for a nearby salt pond. There were a few tarpon around, though none wanted to play.…
Read MoreAfter returning from New Orleans, there are a few things that I think are worth mentioning. First, product: Cortland has a new clear fly line (replacing the PE+ Crystal we have been using on the ocean side for difficult tarpon…) and it appears to be softer and more limp than the older, stiffer version. We…
Read MoreIt’s pretty cool to see photos of fish in their natural environment, happy as all get up doing what they do best. Until I can supply a report from the show in New Orleans (which includes a GREAT carp fishing report), these will have to do. That’s it. ncl/tac
Read MoreThe photos below show some amazing stuff–prey and predator in their natural environment. The Hunted: The Hunter: More Hunter: Pretty amazing to see. I’m leaving for the New Orleans Fly Tackle Dealers show on Wednesday, and I’ll try to keep up with this page during my trip. Fishing on the flats remains steady as far…
