Fishing Reports
The fishing reports page has been a favorite for a while now, and we try to keep it updated regularly. For the most part, it’s a blog of Nathaniel Linville and the fishing he does with guides that he’s lucky enough to fish with though occasionally we’ll post a guest report from one of our friends on a trip they took. Good days, bad days, success and failure, they’re all here. Photos accompany the report when they’re available, but if you want straight photos the best place to look is the photo gallery.
Yesterday, I had a day off from both work and fishing. I went to the park to cast a fly rod for a few hours with Kathryn, and afterwards thought it would be worth a look for a small pon. We found them, though I couldn’t buy a bite. After a fly change and letting…
Read MoreYesterday and today were the first relatively cold days we’ve had here in a while, and even though the fishing was slightly shut down due to the chill it’s always nice to have some cold fronts during the winter to put everything back to its right place. As the warming trend continues the fish will…
Read MoreAfter the days with Steve, I fished with John O’Hearn as a guest of Ted Margo. We had a great time, and while it took us a few hours to locate the lips we eventually finished the day with a few shots. It’s worth mentioning that Ted Margo made a few of the best casts…
Read MoreI am in the process of catching up with the reports, so please forgive me for being a week late on these pages. Following the three epic days of barracuda fishing with John Benvenuto, I got in the car for the four hour drive to Everglades City to fish for the six with Steve Huff.…
Read MoreIt’s been a while since I’ve updated these pages, but as I mentioned I have been fishing a lot and have been producing the raw material to be featured here. I’ll begin by mentioning a pair of great days that I had with John O’Hearn last Monday and Tuesday. While it could be argued that…
Read MoreSince I haven’t been fishing much, these pages have slowed down lately. I’m here to report that I have a lot of fishing upcoming (and have rescheduled my days with Steve, which were supposed to be taking place at the moment), so stay tuned. In actual fishing news, I went to a pier last night…
Read MoreOn Monday I fished in the Everglades with Captain Joe Rodriguez and Fitz Coker. After a long drive from Key West to Islamorada, and another long drive from Islamorada to the Everglades, we arrived in great conditions and immediately started seeing a lot of redfish. The issue we had with the redfish was that they…
Read MoreIt figured it would be worthwhile to mention that the weather seems to have turned the corner. Today it’s sunny and warm, and as the warming trend continues I’ll be sure to update the fishing reports with something other than ramblings about the weather. Monday I am fishing with Joe Rodriguez and Fitz Coker in…
Read MoreOn Monday, I fished with John Benvenuto. Our plan was to fish for barracuda, in preparation for the Cuda Bowl. The cold front was scheduled to arrive later in the day, but we left the ramp at 9:00 in reasonable conditions. We started by fishing for permit, and while the water looked great we did…
Read MoreYesterday was cold and rainy, though today was bluebird and warm. Tomorrow, another front is scheduled to visit us and plunge our temperatures once again. I am scheduled to fish with John Benvenuto tomorrow morning, and our target will be barracuda in preparation for the upcoming Cuda Bowl. Hopefully, we can find a few before…
Read MoreWelcome to the new year. Before the festivities, I fished with Captain Chris Trosset and Caleb (my brother) and his wife Alex. We were joined by Kat, and we all had a great time though the fishing was slow. We started by throwing tons of bait looking for tunas, but the only thing that came…
Read MoreSo this is our new website, and here is the first post I’m making on it. I figured Teddy “Eyeballs” Margo would be a good way to kick it off, so enjoy a (re)uploaded photo. More to come, now that the website’s done and I start fishing more in January these reports will be back…
Read MoreSteve Jacobs, a good friend of mine, provided these pictures to me and I figured I’d share them here: That’s it for now. n
Read MoreEarlier this week, I fished with John O’Hearn and Jim Linville, my father. If you keep up with these reports, it’s been a long while since he’s made the journey south to fish in the Keys. Needless to say, I was happy to be in the company of my dad and spend a few days…
Read MoreHappy Thanksgiving. It’s cold today, though it isn’t supposed to last long. Tuesday and Wednesday with John, reports to follow. ncl
Read MoreThe last two days, I fished with John O’Hearn. The first day we were throwing some light tippet at permit, and the second day we used the nice weather to look for tarpon. Here’s how it all went down: Day One: We started far away from Key West, on a nameless edge, looking for a…
Read MoreYesterday I fished offshore with Captain Rob Nevius and Kathryn. We left later in the day, hoping to catch the evening blackfin/bonita/skipjack bite and get Kathryn her first tuna on fly. Joining us was Don, a friend of Rob’s. We found bait, and though it took us longer than we had hoped to fill the…
Read MoreI know…this is supposed to be a Key West centric fishing report page. But I haven’t been in Key West for a week, and I figured everyone is just dying to know what’s good with the wild brook trout population in Weston, Vermont. I also assume there to be interest in how hard they are…
Read MoreTwo days ago I went fishing with Chris Trosset. Our target was blackfin tuna, and we found them in good numbers. After a longer-than-average search for bait, we arrived at the spot an hour before sunset and were in tuna the entire time. I hooked three on fly, losing every one to the sharks. Chris…
Read MoreWe left off with the capturing of two permit on the beginning of the sixth day. Here’s what happened next: Michael had caught the permit while I was tarpon fishing, and since we were also in the presence of some small bonefish we decided to catch two in case we could get a slam. Michael…
